What Happens After you Sign a Contract to Buy a House?

Todd and Oana talk about what happens after you sign a contract to buy a house. Since most of the things that happen after going under contract on a home purchase are the same for both buyer and seller, there are a number of important things that happen almost immediately after signing a contract to buy. These things are the same whether you are buying a house for the first time or you have already purchased homes in the past. One of those is that the buyer’s agent is going to open escrow at a title company or attorney, and the home inspector and appraiser are going to start their process.

The first few weeks after signing a purchase agreement to buy a house are the most critical ones for both buyer and seller since this is the timeframe where the buyer can cancel for “due diligence” items, including not liking the rules and regulations of the HOA. It is important to note that just because someone has signed loan docs does not mean they own the house. Signing loan docs is just a step in the process of buying a house and not until the home is closed does the buyer now own the house.
