Rental Relief Package – $25 Billion for tenants. HOW TO GET IT!

Congress passed a $25B Rental Relief Package for tenants and landlords as part of the Cares II Act which was included in the spending bill. While we are waiting for the President to sign it, it is unlikely this provision will change.

The provisions of the bill are that the money will be given to the states and then the states will disburse the money. A provision is that the landlords will be able to apply on behalf of the tenant to get the rent paid as well. The rental relief bill money can also be used to pay for utilities as well as back rent or rent owed in arrears.

Details of the rental relief and other elements of the bill:
-$600 stimulus checks to adults, possibly as much as $2,000
-check for dependents as well.
-Income less than $99k to qualify -$300/week for Unemployment
-$25B to states to administer rental assistance
-Can be used to pay back rents
-Can be used to pay utilities
-Landlords can apply on behalf of tenants
-Eviction moratorium to the end of January 2021
