Las Vegas Secret Water Supply: Underground Aquifer

When will Las Vegas run out of water? When will Lake Mead run dry?

Las Vegas has over 8 years of water stored in an underground aquifer. This means that Las Vegas is unlikely to run out of water from Lake Mead. There are 118 Billion gallons of water, or about 360,000 acre feet of water stored for later use.

There has been speculation that Las Vegas will run out of water, but that is highly unlikely. Since Las Vegas only gets 2% of the entire Colorado River supply, we don’t need that much to get by. California, Arizona and Mexico need the most.

There is little chance that Las Vegas will run out of water or that Lake mead will be completely empty.
