Are real estate reality TV shows scripted? Episode #339
Hello. Welcome to Todd Miller TV. I want to have a little fun today. The topic of this video is, “Are real estate reality shows real or are they staged?” meaning you’re watching one of these real estate related reality shows where they show the people going from house to house, trying to figure out which house they want and they go through the process. Then of course in the end they get a house and the whole thing works out and everything.
The truth is that from what I’ve seen, they’re not real. You say, “Todd, how do you know? You don’t know what they’re really doing.” Well, I kind of do and this is why.
One, I’ve been involved in the filming of them and not actually in a – like I wasn’t one of the agents or anything. But I was there when they were filming it, watching, and they were like shooting the same scene over and over and over of the people deciding like which house they like most. They were weighing the three houses and they were going back and the whole family was deciding and the cool thing was that I asked the person.
I go, “So like you keep shooting this over and over.” Like, oh no, they already bought one of the houses. They’re already living in one of the houses. They’re just like recreating the – so it’s a recreation. It’s like the Civil War recreation and then I’ve had calls from people saying, “Hey, we want to do one with you because we see all your videos. We want to get either you or one of your agents.” It had a very difficult deal and they were like specific.
We want a deal where this happened and where we can get the people back in and we’re going to go walk through it again like they’re doing it for real but they’ve already done it. I was like, “Hey, no thanks. Not really interested in sort of putting on that kind of charade.”
So just remember this. If you’re watching on television, like that, it’s staged. I mean there’s very little real stuff that you’re going to see. Even reality show, it’s not real-real. It’s very staged.
The only thing I’m going to tell you is not staged is my blog. I just turn it on and start talking and I have guests and I don’t have a teleprompter and I don’t make up information.
So it is what it is but I thought I would share that with you. I laugh when I see the shows and I know it’s entertainment. You just have to take it for what it is. You’re not going to get a lot of super useful information out of it unfortunately, if you’re trying to specifically learn something about real estate.
So anyway, I thought I would share that with you. That’s my update for today. Hope to see you on another video. Thanks.
